Title:What is that in your hand?
Scripture: Then the LORD said to him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied. – Exodus 4:2
There are things in our hands which can potentially to become life changing. God asked Moses, “What is that in your hand?” He said “a Staff”. God then told Moses to throw the rod on the ground, and when he did, it became a serpent. Then God said, “Take it by the tail,” and it became a rod again. God uses insignificant things and people to accomplish great tasks. Moses didn’t feel qualified. He knew his weaknesses. He knew his past. He had failed before. Yet he was used by God.
We have sometimes talked ourselves out of accomplishing great things. Let us look at a few example:
What I have is Insignificant: What could Samson possibly do with a jawbone? The scripture records in Judges 15:15 ” And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith.” What brought that victory? Was it the jawbone? No it was the man who held the jawbone who was willing to let God use what was in his hand. No matter how insignificant it seemed ,it could be your time, talent, or treasure .
What I Have Is Not Enough: Elijah, the prophet of God was told to go to a city called Zarapeth and to find a widow woman who would feed him. Elijah found the widow woman and told her what God had said. She said ” I only have a handful of meal and a little oil in a cruse. I am getting ready to cook it for my son and I to eat and then we will die.”
Elijah said, ” Do that which God said.” The widow obeyed God and I Kings 17:16 says ” And the barrel of meal did not waste, neither did the cruse fail, according to the word of the Lord.” Widow, what would have happened if you had hoarded that which was in your hand? My son and I would have starved. What happened when you gave it to God? He multiplied it over and over.
People may laugh at what God has given you. They may tell you it is impossible for you to do anything for God. Do you remember David in the bible? A Philistine giant called Goliath challenged Israel day after day to send out a man to fight him. No one was willing to fight him except a shepherd boy named David. when he went out to do battle, the giant laughed at him to scorn. All David had in his hand was a sling shot but when the giant fell from a stone in his forehead no one was laughing any more and a great victory was won (1 Samuel 17: 50 -51).
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. – Ecclesiastes 9:10
The question for you question today. What’s in your hand? What is it that God has already built into your life, though it seems quite ordinary today, could become something quite different if used for the Lord? What passion for service has God sparked in you? What needs do you see that other may not? What abilities, talents or spiritual gifts has he equipped you with? What experiences have you had that God could use to touch the lives of others? You may have always thought those were coincidences. They weren’t. They were God’s providences!
God bless you
