The Excellency of Wisdom
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom” – James 3:13
What is Wisdom?
- Wisdom can be defined as the ability to see how the Word of God applies to our lives.Wisdom shows us how to apply everything in this book to our day to day life.
- Wisdom is the quality that keeps you from getting into situations where you need it.
- Wisdom is the power to see and the inclination to choose the best and highest goal, together with the surest means of attaining it.”
- Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when you would have preferred to talk.”

[pullquote]Wisdom is accompanied by knowledge[/pullquote]We sometimes hear wisdom and knowledge used together, but they are different. Knowledge is information that we gather and store in our memory. Wisdom enables us to properly use the knowledge we have. Wisdom helps us to discard the worthless and retain that which is good.
Wisdom is a very real and practical sense of what to do, how to do it, and why it must be done. Wisdom is more than common sense, because a wise person may not always choose what is commonly regarded as the best or safest or most popular course of action–because that way may not be what God deems best.
[pullquote]A person who is wise is someone with the uncommon ability to see what is happening, appraise what has happened, anticipate what may happen, evaluate various courses of action, then make a sensible decision, choosing the right path.
[/pullquote]How to get wisdom
Grow in Wisdom: Jesus wasn’t born with all the wisdom he needed, instead he grew in wisdom. It is written Luke 2:52, ” Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.”
Ask God in Prayer:If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
Walking with the wise: Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm (Proverbs 13:20)
Finally, We show our wisdom by the way we live and the way we treat other people. If we are to survive in this life, we must be wise or have wisdom. Everything is not going to go our way, but that does not mean it’s wrong. Just because everyone does not see things our way, or everyone does not like us, or people say things of dishonor to us, does not mean we are to retaliate with bitter harsh words. We are to follow Jesus’ words: “This is my command: Love each other” (John 15:17). As Christians, many in the world will hate us, but we are to love and support one another.
