Title: Is God Fair

“To one he gave five bags of gold; to another two bags, and to another one bag; each according to his ability. Then he went on his journey.” – Matthew 25:15

Have you ever wondered the answer to this question? The truth is God is not fair. God is Just. Fairness implies that we treat everyone equally and being just implies we treats every one righteously. An example

A father has 16 sweets which he wants to give to his four children. To be fair, he will simply divide sweets into 4 pieces of 4’s among the children. But he chooses to give one of his children 7 pieces of sweet, the other 5 pieces of sweet, another 3 pieces of sweet and the last child 1 piece of sweet. He might not have dealt fairly but he would have been justly.

Then you might ask, If God is just, why is life not fair? This is paradoxical question. It seems like some people are marked for misery from birth. The disciples of Jesus asked a similar question in John 9:1-3 “As he went along, they he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind? “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.”
[pullquote] This is the sovereignty of God. “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” [/pullquote] The other definition of fairness involves rewards and penalties. If a man does well, he deserves to be rewarded that is fair; like if a man commits a crime, he deserves to go to prison that would be fair. So if a man sins then he deserves to spend eternity in hell. That would be fair. After all have sinned (Romans 3:23). I know what you are thinking, No! Nobody wants to go to hell. Yet God made He that had no sin to become in sin, so we can be the righteousness of God (2 Cor 5:21)

The Grace of election. Everybody has a special place in the food chain in the world. The steering wheel of a car is as important as the battery. If one is missing the whole car is not moving. There is an interdependency between the parts, yet one is deemed more significant than the other.

We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith. If it is serving, then serve. If it is teaching, then teach. If it is to encourage, then give encouragement. If it is giving, then give generously. If it is to lead, do it diligently. If it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.– Romans 6:6-8

We complain about not having shoes, until we meet someone who has no legs. God is loving, gracious, merciful, kind and above all He is Just. Let us be thankful what he has done. Happy Thanksgiving.
