Title: Living under the influence Part 2: Can a Christian be possessed by a demon?
Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” – Mat. 16:22-23
A Christian cannot be possessed by demon. The definition of the word “possessed” refers to ownership. We are owned by Christ not by demons (1 Corinthians 6:19 – 20). A Christian can be under the influence of a demon, Jesus referred to Peter as a devil. Demons are like squatters; they need with force and authority. All miracles performed in the new Testament were also performed in old testament except for casting out of demons, because no one had the authority over demons until Jesus came into the world (Matthew 8:16).
The good news for believers under the new covenant is that we have been given the authority over (Mark 16:17). Demonic activities in a man’s life hinders the blessing of God from flowing in. Here is a testimony by Sis Agnes.
I am woman of 40 years plus believing God for a husband. I have a good job and everything that will make a man comfortable. I met with a man of God by the name of Pastor Chris who was praying with me and agreeing with me in prayers. He invited Pastor Femi to sit in on one of our conversations. I felt a little reluctant looking at him and thinking of his age. He told me three things and then told me to do a self-deliverance. I did as he had instructed on the 2nd of October. That night I felt something leap out of my body. I knew I was free. By the 26th of October the Lord brought a man my way. We are currently planning our wedding. I give God the glory.

Not all demonic activity in a man’s life make them unruly; there are people working along the road, who are perfectly same yet have legion of evil spirits in them. Mary Magdalene had seven demons in her but she appeared normal to everyone around her (Luke 8:2).Close the windows
Yesterday, we discussed an avenue by which the enemy gets in our lives. There are things which look like harmless and fun but are open path to demons. Such as
- Playing with Ouija Board
- Visiting a Fortune teller
- Consulting Mediums or Clairvoyants
- Meditation (such as yoga)
- Astrology – reading Horoscopes
- Hypnosis
Evil spirits do not spare children because they are children. They are wicked and ruthless (Mark 9:17-26) They do as much havoc in an adult as they do in children. Watch, keep your children in sheepfold of Christ.
“…in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. – Ephesians 2:2
The devil is an astute enemy. He masterminds, he studies you. Your weaknesses may strike at the least expected time. He departed from Jesus from a while for an opportune time (Luke 4:13). The easiest way to outsmart the devil is to obey God’s word. Let your heart be filled with his word today. Give no room to the enemy.
Prayer Point
- Father, expose every demonic activity in my life and set me free from their influence in Jeus name – John 8:36
- Father, every operation of demons in my life cease from today in the name of Jesus – Luke 10:19
