Title: Living with a Heavenly Mindset
Scripture: Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is his good, pleasing and perfect will. – Romans 12:2
The word “mind” refers to disposition or attitude. It is your way of thinking about life. Some would call it a paradigm or a worldview or perspective. It involves more than your ability to think or form thoughts. It has to do with the way you see God, the way you see truth, the way you see others, and the way you see yourself. It is a collection of all of your presuppositions or assumptions that guide the way you think and choose, and live.
The carnal mind has purposes, aspirations and desires that are hostile to God. So many people suffer needlessly because they allow themselves to fall into a pattern of self-destructive mindsets. We make hundreds of choices everyday which mindset to adopt. Our happiness or sorrow is determined by what we choose control our thoughts. A mindset is the way, state or direction of a person’s thinking. A spiritually minded person allows the indwelling Christ to control their thoughts, desires and behavior. One who has their mind set on the Spirit is directed by the standards of the scriptures.
[pullquote]Christian Atheist can be defined as someone who believes in God, but lives as if he doesn’t exist [/pullquote] Sin is always hostile to God. It erroneously believes that fleshly concerns will bring one pleasure, satisfaction or fulfillment. When our mind is controlled by the flesh then we are in opposition to God’s authority and purposes. Without the light of God illuminating a person’s mindset there is nothing but darkness. The mindset of the spiritually minded person is life and peace because it submits to whatever pleases God. A Spirit directed individual has a craving for God and His purposes. He or she is not satisfied with anything less than God’s best will. One’s spiritual mindset is nourished by intimate moments with God in the scriptures. David wrote, “As the deer pants for the water, so my soul cries after you.” (Psalm 42) Jeremiah wrote, “Your words were found and I did eat them and they became the joy and the delight of my heart.” (Jer. 15:16) Ask the Lord to help you to seek to submit your thinking to the control of the Holy Spirit in all areas of your activities, relationships and personal concerns.
When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. – 1 Corinthians 13:11
Have you ever noticed how a person’s mindset determines the life’s outcome? The mindset of the spiritually minded person allows the love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control of the Spirit to flow through them. We do not have to live in fear or anger since God has given us the Spirit of power, love and self-discipline. (2 Tim. 1:7) Our service becomes glad, gracious and fruitful since it streams from the rivers of life found in Jesus Christ. It is no longer dependent on the stale pools of fleshly wisdom or insights. Thank the Lord for the abundant resources that are flowing through you whenever you are characterized by a spiritual mindset
