Title: Total Freedom
Scripture: So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. – John 8:36
Freedom has been compelling since the beginning of time. It was what enticed Adam and Eve to rebel against God. Freedom is often misrepresented especially for Christians. The world’s definition of freedom and a Christian definition of freedom are different. The world’s definition says, freedom is to free of anyone’s control, but the day you accept Jesus as your lord and savior, you hand someone else the keys to your life; before then, you have been driving, you choose the destination, you choose the route, you choose the speed. Now we have to change seats; you are in the passenger seat. You are no longer in charge of your life anymore. It’s scary.
If Jesus is driving, two captains cannot run a ship. You are not in charge of my ego anymore. No more self-centred ambition. It does not mean that you cease to use your mind, ask questions, or think critically. To Surrender is the glad and voluntary acknowledgement that there is a God and it is not me. His purposes are wiser than my purposes, and his desires are better than my desires.
Living the way that God wants you to might seem restricting, but it’s sure a lot better than the alternative. I will share with you a story, “A woman was awakened one morning by a strange sound. She went to the window and saw a butterfly flying inside the window pane in great fright; outside a sparrow was pecking at the pane and trying to reach the butterfly. The butterfly did not see the glass pane and expected every minute to be caught, the sparrow did not see the glass and expected every minute to catch the butterfly. All the while the butterfly was safe because the glass was between it and the sparrow. While the butterfly was being captive by the glass it was safe.
Christian Freedom presupposes that we already know about the Freedom from our sins that Jesus won for us on the cross. Christian Freedom is about how we live our lives now, knowing that we are free from sins and on our way to heaven.
[pullquote] “For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin which dwells within me.” – Romans. 7:19 [/pullquote]Christian Freedom is not all about rights, and making sure that I can do all the things that God leaves open for me to do. Listen to what Paul says, “Be careful, however, that the exercise of your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak.”
- “…you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” – John 8:32
” There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death. – Romans. 8:1 – 2
As you and I accept the freedom in Christ, He protects, saves and gives us life, so then I will be free to live.
