Title:What tools do you have in your tool box?
Scripture:Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. – Ecclesiastes 9:10
Every handy man knows the importance of having the right tool for the job. You might have heard the saying, “the right tool for the right job”. Life requires the right tools to overcome the challenges that confronts us. You wouldn’t send a firefighter into a burning building without a heat-resistant suit, a fire extinguisher, and lots of training on how to quench the flames.
There are certain prayers that God will not answer because we do not possess the skill or experience to handle the responsibilities attached to the answer.
Hammers come in different shapes and sizes. If we attempt to use a Sledge Hammer to drive in a little nail, we are most likely to make a mess of the situation; but yet we approach some situations in our lives with a sledge hammer, especially on people’s feelings and emotion; although our intention might be good or simply to drive home a point. We will find ourselves doing more damage than good. Human emotions are not easily parched up with wall fillers as cracked walls. They often leave a permanent scar. Without the right tool we make a mess of the situation, though we might have meant well.
In some situations, the problems we find ourselves in isn’t a lack of tools, it’s that we often use the wrong tool or no tools at all and end up struggling far more than necessary to accomplish the task at hand. Given that there are a wide variety of tools, it makes choosing the right type. We might have the notion that some tools are superior to others. Take for example a young man who has been told all of his life that the man is the head of the home, but no one told him of the added responsibility of being a leader. When confronted with a situation as a leader if the only tool he has in his toolbox is a hammer, then he makes his problem appear as a nail.
For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.- 2 Peter 1:5-8
Experience and Maturity makes us a master crafts man. Learning to negotiate when we have to, will create less mess and leave both party mutual satisfied. As Christians we are expected to be harmless as a dove and be as wise a serpent.
