Scripture:Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails. – Proverbs 19:21
I remember a story of a very rich man who made his fortune in crocodile farming, selling crocodile skins to top fashion houses. One day, he threw a party around his house. In the middle of the party he posed a challenge to the audience.
He said, if anyone of you can swim across this crocodile pool from one end to the other, he will be rewarded with the hand of my beautiful daughter. There was a big buzz in the audience as each one was eyeing who will be one courageous soul that can brave the challenge.
Out of nowhere, there was one big splash. Suddenly the audience roared in thunderous applause as one man young, swam criss crossing his way, at times wresting the crocodiles. A few seconds later he miraculously reached the other end of the pool without no injuries nor scratches. With such death defying effort, the people applauded with great celebration.
At the end of the pool, the rich man, puzzled and perplexed, interviewed the young man. He asked, young man, congratulations! You have proven your mettle.
Now before I give you the hand of my daughter, I just want to know one thing? What was on your mind when you jumped into the pool?
The young man said. Sir, I just want to know who pushed me in the pool?
Can we relate to this story? That when given what seemed to be an impossible task that we need someone to push us into the unknown before we even realize that we have hidden talents or undiscovered gifts to draw men to God?
Moses was enjoying his new life, married to the daughter of Priest. When suddenly God came calling. This is typical of God to interrupt our plans when we least expected. Now, picture yourself in Moses shoes. Here you are being confronted by God with signs and wonders of a burning bush. What would be your reaction? Moses said, “Who Am I Lord that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt? Next, Moses said “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ What shall I tell them Lord? God said “ I AM WHO I AM”.(Exodus 4)
What do I do when God interrupt my plans?
- The first thing we need to do when God interrupts our plans is to turn to His Word. It is through the Scriptures that God can develop our faith, which is exactly what we need at those times in our lives.
- Second, Take time to listen to God. The scripture says For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. – Jeremiah 29:11
- Third, listen to God in prayer clear direction and timing. When we quiet ourselves down and come into His presence in prayer, we give God greater access to our souls and our spirits
- Fourth, be willing to Surrender your will to God’s will: When God interrupts our plans, choosing to surrender my will to His is usually not easy. In fact God has never promised us an easy path if we follow Him. Jesus certainly never made it easy for people to truly follow Him while He was here on earth. When He called the disciples to follow Him, he demanded that they immediately give up their way of life, their occupations and even their families at times.
Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. – Psalms 139:16
God has a plan for your life, one that existed before He even created this world. Are you going to allow Him to interrupt your plan? His plans for our lives will be far better, greater than anything we can imagine ourselves
