Title: Helpers of Destiny
Scriptures: The Lord is with me; he is my helper. I look in triumph on my enemies. Psalm 118:7 The pace at which we travel towards our destiny is largely dependent on how much help we can get along the way. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness but an ability to recognize personal limitation in accomplishing a task. God made all human interdependent. He said in Genesis 2:18, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him”. No matter the anointing or strength we possess, will always need help.
Destiny helpers come in different ways and at different time in our lives; even those who are trying to harm us might be helping us to get to our place of destiny. Joseph is a case study (See Genesis 50:20). I could remember a supply teacher who was destiny helper for me. He noticed my ability with numbers and he recommended me. Subsequently, I was put in higher class for the subject mathematics; an opportunity to show case my talent.
Helps comes in diverse ways. A word of recommendation can save us time, get us into places or save your life (Acts 5:29-41) An encouragement can motivate us to keep going when hope seems lost; financial assistance can relief you of pressure. A helper could be a mentor, who shows you the way to get your destination. We must become sensitive to who can be a destiny helper to us. Rarely does God give a vision which can be accomplished singlehandedly. It will always require the cooperation of others to help you. Jesus was the son of the living, yet He required 12 disciples to help him with the work of the ministry.
A good character and positive attitude is always needed. A talent can get us to the top but it takes character and attitude to keep us there. I would like to share the story of a young man who was in dire need of a job. He came to visit his older brother who was in the company of an old friend. He exchanged pleasantries with them; his brother’s friend was impressed by his attitude and demeanor. Some weeks later, the young man was in an office for an interview. While sitting and waiting eagerly for his turn to be interviewed, his brother’s friend walked into the office. They instantly recognized him and exchanged greetings. The older gentleman asked the young man what he was doing at the place. He replied I came for an interview. Fortunately, the hiring manager was a close of friend and a word of recommendation got him hired.
A helper comes in various shapes and sizes. The scripture tells a story of a slave girl who helped a mighty General find a cure for his leprosy (2 Kings 5:2-3). Helpers are needed to relieve burdens and not to make us lazy. A Pastor once had one member of his congregation volunteer his time every Thursday to help do simple chores like, picking up and dropping dry cleaning; picking up the children at the nursery etc. They are not mentally tasking activities but freed the pastor to complete other important work on Thursdays.
So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” Hebrews 13:6
Finally, the king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord. Like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes. (Proverbs 21:1) Nobody can make you do anything voluntarily except there is a threat to your life or loved one. But God has the sovereign power over life and death. A heartfelt prayer is needed to God to send a helper our way. Remember the pace at which we travel in life is largely dependent on the help we can get along the way.
