Title: The Greatest Force on Earth
And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. – 1 Corinthians 13:13
Love is the capstone of all other virtues. The whole of the Old Testament can be summed up by the one word, “love” (Matthew 22:36 -40). The greatest love story ever told is that of Christ laying his life for you and I for the purpose of redemption (John 15:13). God’s love is so deep and so strong; that is hard to comprehend. God loves each one of us unconditionally. God has committed himself to loving us. There is nothing that we can do that will make God love us anymore or any less than He already does. For while we are yet sinners, Christ loved us and died for us (Romans 5:8)
Love is most important virtue to all Christians. It governs our relationships with one and another, especially those with whom we strongly disagree. Paul declines giving a technical definition of love; instead, he provides us with a description of love. He says Love is patient, love is kind, and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not easily provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. (See 1 Corinthians 13). Love is always characterized by these qualities, without exception.
Psalm 130:7, “O Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption.”
- Love entails a cost : A young minister complained to an older minister because he didn’t have a very big congregation. He said, “I love to preach!” The older minister, “But do you love the people to whom you preach?” I’ve heard some mighty good preachers in my time, but if they don’t have time for people it means little. Loving people is what really counts in life. My preaching means very little if I don’t love you.
- God loves people: Lord motivates us go the extra mile. It is the driving force in most of our lives. Love makes us go out our way to see other comfortable. A mother’s love for her child will make her sacrifice her life for the safety of the child.
- God loves goodness: Before any man gets puffed up in self-righteousness. I would like to remind you of a scripture in Psalms 130:3, “If you, LORD, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? ”
- God loves the things God Loves: Always be your brother’s keeper. The Love of God for humanity made Him send His only begotten son (John 3:16).
My prayer is that the Love of God will be shed abroad in our heart.
