Title: He is my Peace

Scripture: Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. – John 14:27

God’s name tells us something about His character and nature. It reveal the many facets of His perfect nature and character. It is an extension of Himself, to help us understand who He is, how He is, and what He can do in us and through us. Our definition of Peace might slightly skewed especially in the world we live in, sometimes when we are isolated from all our responsibilities, like Father or mother will five children to care for, we scream peace at last.

There are different Kinds of Peace, which can be broadly classified into two categories

  • False Peace : A bottle of alcohol and a packet of cigarette can numb the pain for moment, which give temporary people but the effect wear out. It’s like standing in the eye of a storm.

[pullquote]The world enjoys peace when there is an absence of trouble; …….Christians …. Followers of the Christ….enjoy peace in spite of trouble … in spite of trials [/pullquote]

  • True Peace : Having the peace of God always puts us in conflict with the world. Shalom means much more than the absence of war or the absence of distress. In some very dark hours God reveals hsimself as Jehovah Shalom. Shalom also signifies a sense of well-being on the inside, and on the outside, and is used to describe health, happiness, quietness of soul, tranquillity, prosperity and security.

Obstacles to Peace

  • Disobedience : The bible says, “If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea” ( Isaiah 48:18). This Scripture reminds me of my days as a little boy once i have done something naughty, my peace is troubled, knowing there will be repercussions. The scriptures says Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.(Psalm 119:165)
  • Fear and Worries: The cares of this world often makes anxious. The bible tells us, Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.(Philippians 4:6-7). Fear can paralyze us to the extent where we cannot be effective in life or ministry for the Lord. If we are not watchful, then fear will rob us of fulfilling the purposes of God for our lives. The bible tells us, Which one of you by worrying can add a day to length of his life?(luke 12:25)
  • Discord or Disunity: When there is strife in the atmosphere, it often leads to lack of Peace. “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” Romans 12:18
  • lack of knowledge: His brusing and punishment is provision for our peace, when we lack knowledge of this truth it can affect our state of mind, the bible says “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5)

[pullquote]In the world, peace is something you hope for …. Something you work for. But to the follower of Christ, ….peace is God’s wonderful gift, …. A gift received by faith[/pullquote]How to Get the Peace of God

  • Go to the Source: Jesus is the “Prince of Peace.”For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6)
  • Keep your focus on Him: You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. (Isaiah 26:3)
  • Have faith in God: Trust in Him, He wont let you down.
The faith we display leads to God’s ultimate peace.
  • Prayer is the antidote to worry. – Have you told God about it. When you submit your prayers and petitions to God with thanksgiving in your heart, an amazing thing happens: the peace of God floods your troubled soul. This peace transcends all understanding, that is, it is beyond human comprehension. This peace guards the believers. The word guard translates a military term which means “to protect or garrison by guarding.” Like soldiers assigned to watch over an entrance, God’s peace will garrison, protect and watch over your hearts and your minds, that is, your emotions and your thoughts.

Peace Is not the absence of trouble for he said.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. – Isaiah 43:2
“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.” – 2 Thessalonians 3:16
