Title: An Excellent Spirit
“Then this Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.”– Daniel 6:3
Daniel was a man who had an excellent spirit. He had a spirit that excelled in circumstances. He was relevant in government during the reign of four kings. Daniel knew when to talk, and when to listen. He knew when to move and when to be still. He knew how to exhibit good manners at the king’s table. He didn’t overindulge himself or cause a scene. He knew his place and he kept to it. He didn’t try to subvert the chain of command in the palace by going past his superiors to the top without permission. He didn’t abuse his authority or position by assuming to do what was assigned to someone else. In other words, he knew how to handle himself in every situation so that he would not be the source of trouble for the king.
Excellence begins with a mindset. If you have an excellent spirit within you, then that is going to be an outward sign of inward spirit. If we want to be people of excellence, we must be people of excellence in all we do including prayer, knowing that our God is an excellent God and He deserves excellent prayer from our lips. This spirit in a believer helps them to reach a little higher, work a little harder, commit themselves a little more to the service of their God. If you really want to have an excellent spirit, we must learn to control our self and keep our place. When the time is right and God brings the circumstances around, your wisdom and knowledge will be revealed.
[pullquote] “Excellence is not a skill. It is an attitude.” -Ralph Marston[/pullquote]An excellent spirit is a humble spirit. An excellent spirit obeys the leading of the Holy Spirit. God loves to exalt an excellent spirit. We live in a society where mediocrity is the norm. Many people do as little as they can to get by. The bible says, “If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.”- Matthews 5:41. Your company shouldn’t get along as well without you. You should be so skilled, productive, valuable, needed that they can’t afford to lose you. We live in a very competitive marketplace. If you’re not growing, improving, learning new skills, you’re falling behind. There’s always room for improvement. We can always get better.
“O lord our lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! Who has set Thy glory above the heavens.” – Psalm 8:1
Favor and excellence go hand in hand; increase, promotion, reaching your highest potential, it is all tied to a spirit of excellence. Whether you have a lot or a little, whether it’s new or old, take pride in what God has given you. Do it with excellence, knowing that you represent almighty God. You may be in a situation where everybody around you is a little lazy, indifferent, undisciplined, don’t let that rub off on you. You are God’s child. He is excellent; therefore, you are called to be excellent
