In Exodus 12 the blood was sprinkled on the doorposts of the Jewish homes just as the Lord had instructed them. When the death angel came on that faithful night with the awful judgment of death to the firstborn the Jews were protected by the blood. God said, “The blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you when I smite the land of Egypt.” Exodus 12:13
