Title: Don’t Panic

“…I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” – Hebrews 13:5

I went swimming some years ago, after swimming a few times across the length of the pool, for some unknown reason, I decided to stand and walk at the deep end of the pool. I am a man, who is 6 feet plus in height, so it should not be a problem, I thought. As I began to walk in pool, suddenly my feet could not touch the floor of the pool. I began to panic. The more I panicked, the more I struggled and then I began to drown.

No one could help me. Whosoever tried to help me, I pulled down under the water. I was fighting for my life. Finally, the life guard stretched a pole in my direction; I pulled on to it, as my life depended on it.As I reflected on my ordeal after I left the pool, I asked myself, “why did I Panic?”. I was the same person who swam the length of the pool a few times earlier. I could have returned into a swimming position and swim to edge, but I panicked. When we panic, we become fearful which leads us to make bad choices. Fearful people don’t please God (Hebrews 11:6). Don’t panic!

[pullquote] When God leads you to the edge of the cliff, trust Him fully and let go. Only one of two things will happen: either He’ll catch you when you fall, or He’ll teach you how to fly! [/pullquote]The disciples of Jesus had a similar experience at sea. There was a great storm; strong enough to capsize the ship they were in; yet Jesus remained asleep. They shouted at him, “Do you not care if we drown?” (Mark 4:35-41) No matter how terrible the storm is outside; it is safer to remain in the boat with Jesus.

Sometimes all we need to do is to ask for help, asking for help is not a sign of weakness. No one has a monopoly on knowledge. The people at the pool with me at the time of my ordeal thought I was joking while I was struggling, because they had seen me swim back and forth a number of times. Jesus, our life guard right beside us we won’t let us drown in the sea of challenges. Have you asked for his help today? (1 Corinthians 10:13).
