Title: Leadership by Example

Scripture : “Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.” – 1 Corinthians 11:1

You are the bible the World is reading, as Christians we provides people with examples of authentic Christ-like living. When a Christian’s life is contrary to what he or she says, it indicates either we are unreal or what we advocate and believe isn’t true and doesn’t work. Failure to be a solid example ruins gravely hinders one’s credibility because it causes unbelievers to look down on or reject our Lord and Savior.

Christ seeks to reproduce Himself in us as we appropriate His life by faith through the knowledge of the Word and the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Christ-likeness is the direct and exclusive consequence of God’s activity in us. It is not the consequence of our capacity to imitate God, but the result of God’s capacity to reproduce Himself in us through the Holy Spirit as we learn His Word and learn to walk by faith.

“Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.” – Hebrews 13:7

Following the example of others has nothing to do with imitating the style or charismatic personalities of certain Christian leaders. What we are to provide as a model for others and imitate in others is Christian character as illustrated in the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23)

The two key areas where our examples matters are speech and actions:

  • Speech:
    1. Words expose character, (Luke 6:45)
    2. Words either unites or divides, (Proverbs 15:1)
    3. Words either builds up corrupts, (Ephesians 4:29)
    4. Words either heals or hurts, (Proverbs 12:18)
    5. Words either sustains hope or kills, (Proverbs 29:20)
  • Character
    1. Hospitable: The bibles says, “Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”- Romans 12:13
    2. Self-controlled: To be self-controlled is to not live in bondage to the desires, passions and appetites of the flesh.
    3. Disciplined: This word is related to “self-control” and focuses on one who is able to say “no” to that which is wrong or even just good, so that he can cultivate that which is best.
    4. Holy. The root meaning of “holy” is to be set apart. An Elder is to be progressively growing in holiness as one who is striving to be more like Jesus. The model and example for our lives is God himself as 1 Peter 1:16 says, “Be holy, because I am holy.”

We have no choice in being an example, Being a godly example is not an option. The
