Title: Listening Ears and seeing eyes
“Ears that hear and eyes that see, the LORD has made them both.” – Proverbs 20:12
Many eyes are looking but few see. Many ears are listening but few are assimilating. Our environment is so congested with sound from various sources that it is difficult to isolate any sound. The marketers are doing their best to get our attention; from billboard adverts to junk mails. We are so comfortable in noise that we consider quietness as being boring.
“Be still, and know that I am God…” – Psalms 46:10
The development of good listening skills is important in many parts of our lives from academics to family life and until we learn to be quiet we cannot isolate the still small voice of the Lord. Our ears and eyes are tools for developing our faith (Romans 10:17). Faith is the ability to see and hear in every situation, knowing He will never leave you nor forsake you.
“And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, “This is the way; walk ye in it,” when ye turn to the right hand and when ye turn to the left.” Isa 30:21
Our ability to see and hear God plays key role in living a maximised life. The world we live in is shroud in mysteries (Isaiah 60:2, Matthew 13:13-16); no matter how far or fast we travel, on a wrong path we cannot end up in the right destination. Using a car as an illustration, you can travel for thousands of miles by just being able to see a few feet ahead of you. The word of God is our head lamp and the Holy Spirit our GPS system, who tells us where to turn so we don’t make a wrong turn.
[pullquote] “…blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.” – Matthew 13:16[/pullquote]
The sensitivity of our ears to his voice is proof that we know Him (John 10:27) and see Him as the solution in every situation. Our ability to see the invisible creates extraordinary faith in us. Elisha asked God to open the eyes of servant. He saw “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” (2 Kings 6:16-17). The pureness of our heart plays a key role in seeing the invisible (Matthew 5:8). When you hear His voice, harden not your heart; listen to what the Spirit of God has to say to you.
