My Grace is sufficient for you

Scripture: But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. – 2 Corinthians 12:9

Being a Christian doesn’t guarantee that your life will be blissful and problem free. God’s promise, in the midst of challenges is ‘My grace is sufficient’ to see you through this thing. In our own weaknesses we experience the Lord’s strength and power. We are reminded that faith as small as a mustard seed is able to move mountains. Grace signifies the good-will of God towards us. It is enough to strengthen and comfort in all afflictions and distresses.

What kind of “thorn” was Paul talking about? This is personal to individual, it could be:

  • Physical: health challenges, physical challenges
  • Emotional: depression, discouragement
  • Spiritual: demon attacks

God gives us the measure of grace we need to meet the demands of what is happening in our lives at the moment so that we would learn to depend on Him (Matthew 6:34). God knows that men are prone towards pride, especially when they are in positions of authority and spiritual privilege. By nature, God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Nebuchadnezzar ate grass for 7 years until he learnt humility (See Daniel 4). Failure keeps us humble, and humility is a good thing in God’s Kingdom. Without failure, we would quickly forget who is really in control, who is really invincible and omnipotent. We’d start to think of ourselves more highly than we ought.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. – Isaiah 43:2

God’s grace is inexhaustible and boundless but yet we must cultivate an attitude of contentment. Give thanks for what you have instead of dwelling on what you don’t have. The bible tells us, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says the LORD” (Isaiah 55:8). God owes us nothing; every good thing we possess is a gift of his grace. If He allows certain situations to occur, believe He has provided the grace needed for me. He has assured us that He will not allow more on us than we can bare (1 Corinthians 10:13)

God wants to reveal his power over circumstances in our life. He has the Grace to help us face the past, present and the future. The Lord God Almighty is our personal strength. The Lord God Almighty is our personal rock. The Lord God Almighty is our only source of eternal salvation. Sufficient for us is God’s grace
