The Power of a Vow
Scripture: Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. – Psalm 50:14-15
A vow is not outdated. It is a tool for initiating the unusual move of God in people’s lives. A vow is a promise made to God to do something for God in return for a miracle or help we need from Him when there is no other way out, when one is in crisis or when we have missed God and ended up in a dead-end road
We call God a covenant keeping God because He honours the vows He makes. The scriptures say, “I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered.” (Psalms 89:34). There have been many vows made throughout the Bible (Genesis 28:20-22, Jephthah (Judges 11:30, Hannah (1 Samuel 1:11, David (Psalm 56:12), Solomon (Proverbs 7:14), Jonah (Jonah 2:9),
Are you facing impossible circumstances right now? It is biblical to make a vow when you are in those difficult situations. God loves vows. Throughout history, He has worked mighty miracles when people have made and fulfilled vows. There is power in a vow! And if making a vow is serious, then fulfilling your part of the vow is critical. God never forgets vows.
- God requires you to fulfil the vow without delaying when it is made and when He brings it to pass. Ecclesiastes 5:4-6, Deuteronomy 23:21-23.
- Make vows you can easily keep, be specific, do not be rash or careless in making vows; Judges 11:29-40.
- You must be Spirit-led. There is a place for making a vow; I Samuel 1:10-11. We must learn to let go and let God. A Spirit-led vow can be for your own protection; Job 31:1.
A vow should be seen as an expression of our gratitude to God. Let us not be quick to utter anything before the Lord. The bibles says, For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. – Matthew 12:37
And she made a vow, saying, “LORD Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the LORD for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.” – 1 Samuel 1:11
[pullquote] “When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed” – (Ecclesiastes 5:4). [/pullquote]It is my prayer that as you make your vow, God will lead you out of bondage, bring you and your loved ones out of danger, and pour out blessings
- Father, may I not be a fool before you in Jesus name
- Holy Spirit of God, remind me of any vow I have made in Jesus name
- Father, remember your promises to me.
